The Absolute in Ordinary Life

With the snow storm and the intellectual leisure of not having to preach today or tomorrow a.m., and not go out, I perambulate into dropbox and read something of Tracy Rowland (”Ratzinger’s Faith”). I drop into the footnotes with James schall S.J who is talking about the absolute and he raises the topic so dear  to John Paul II and  Ratzinger, that reason without faith is not reason because it cannot find the absolute. This brings me back in dropbox to skimming in Heidegger who says the same by pointing to the West’s forgetfulness of Being. That’s us. This brings me to the late nineties (1998?) when I labored at JPII’s “Fides et Ratio” and suddenly got it: that Faith is not a conceptual knowing but an experience of the self going out of self and therefore an experience of imaging Christ as an infinite and eternal tending/longing for the Father. Alas, Being…. No. But Person “ising” – the Absolute – And I’m  home. My mind finds the rock solid in the “uber encounter with Trancendent Reality that is the divine Person that I mimck in  the awfulness of my collapsing withering self that I experience in my most insignificant and tiny act.: emptying the dishwasher.  This is GS #24, finding self by gift of self.

Now to put color into this with rhythm and music, go to the you tube “Transcending Heidegger”  that does the hermeneutic of the movies of Terrence Malick and see if you too can’t go out and find God in the Absolute in the ephemeral, in  the quotidian here and now.
