This is the statement for the unity octave of January 18-25. We are ONE, not united. That “ONE” is Christ. To be “one” is not to be united. To be united is the accidental union of autonomous parts. Father, Son and Spirit are not individuals as autonomous that form part of God. The divine Persons are actions of self-gift that imply each other. Father is the action of engendering Son. Son is the action of obeying and glorifying Father. Spirit the mutual self-gift of the two. The are ” ONE” and we are created in their image and likeness. This is called “communio” instead of “community.” Our baptism into the divine Person of the Son transforms the whole of all social relationships.
